The BNA design study Licht Verdicht explores three locations in the center of Rotterdam. The aim is to outline scenarios for light ‘optoppen' - topping up - of buildings.
The design team HOSPER, NOAHH, Temp architecture, Zonneveld engineering and Studio Drift has studied the possibilities of topping up on the Weena First location in Rotterdam. In the design concept Verheven Leven a "vertical city" is suggested that creates more interaction between users.
The introduction of a 5th and 6th façade provides opportunities for roof gardens (in order to reduce urban heat) and space for expressivity, wherein the history of the old zoo can be made visible again. A public route connects the areas with the ground, creating a new public domain.
