HOSPER and Foundation 5+ Landscape Architects from Kassel have won the First prize in the design competition for the Königsplatz in Paderborn, Germany. The subject of the competitionwas a design for the public space on a parking deck in the main shopping area in the city centre of Paderborn. The proposal of HOSPER and Foundation 5+ includesa plan for the short term which proposes to clean up the square and make a good lighting plan. The design is characterised by flexible and simple interventions like a net of lights above the square, a sitting element with an integratedspace for trees and a design for the surface of the square. For the long term the plan proposes to remove parts of the parking deck, which will make it possible to restore important historic streets in Paderborn like the Königstraße.
